Myla’s Milestones                                                                                            July 2003
Extra, Extra, Read All About Her ...

Since you saw me on my web page (http://gozips.uakron.edu/~rmberry), I’ve grown quite a bit.  At
10 weeks, I weighed 10 lbs, 15 oz.  I’m 23 and ¾ inches tall and my feet are now longer than any
finger on my Poppi’s hand!  (By the time you read my newsletter, I’ll be at least 13 weeks old!)

On any given day, I am awake at 2:30 am, 5:00 am and 9:00 am. I’ve become an early bird and my Mommy
says that I’m the cutest at 5:00 am.

I finally realized that I have a tongue: it sticks out all the time when I’m not smiling and I use it to fling my
binky across the bassinet.  Sometimes, when my parents are changing me, I can fling my binky behind the
dresser.  It’s great to see them move the furniture to locate my binky.

My parents are so amazed at everything that I do.  When I blow bubbles, they jump for joy!   Poppi thinks I’m
a genius since I learned to hit the tiger and make the world go round with the globe on my swing.  He’s
teaching me Spanish so that I will grow up bilingual.  (I’m not sure what that means but he’s so cute when he
speaks in a different language to me.)  He says that we’re going to go to Africa when I get older.  I wonder
if they speak Spanish there?

Now I can stand on my legs and I’m ready to jump at any moment.  If you hold my hands, I’ll stand up on my
own ... isn’t that amazing!

Mommy spends her days teaching me how to say, “Hi.” The other night she spent at least three hours trying
to teach me to say one word.  And, when my Poppi came home, I made a coo sound that was so close to “Hi”
that I’ve got them both convinced that I can talk.

I look around at everything, especially my new thumb.   I just realized that I have two of them and am finally
trying to put them in my mouth.  I like the right thumb the best and when my parents aren’t looking, I use my
tongue to lick it.

My favorite book to read is ... If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.  When my parents read this book, I just laugh
and laugh and laugh and laugh.  It’s the funniest story that I’ve heard in a very long time.

I have a new nickname too – Poppi still calls me “Girlie” but Mommy calls me her “Little Linebacker.”  I think
it has something to do with my incredible burps!   Or, maybe it’s because I can drink four ounces of formula
and still want breast milk.

I’m enjoying my new house.  I finally moved from my bedroom into my parents’ bedroom.  It’s great in there.
I love to watch the ceiling fan and sleep on the “big bed.”  At night when I cry, both of them jump right out
of bed the very second I open my mouth.  And, if I yell loud enough, they let me sleep in their arms in the bed.
It’s great and I just love the attention!

 Love, Myla

Special Edition                           Birth Announcement for Myla Arym James                     April 29, 2003
On Tuesday, April 29, 2003 at 4:15 am, Mommy was laying in bed watching television when her water broke.  She alerted my Poppi and together they prepared to make the trip to the hospital - not until Mommy had a chance to shave her legs and put some makeup on, though.  Poppi contacted Dr. Adolph Harper, a longtime OB/GYN specialist in Akron, to alert him of the first signs of my arrival and Dr. Harper suggested that they consider going to the hospital around 10:00 am.  After the labor contractions progressed to just five minutes apart, Mommy and Poppi left for Akron General Hospital around 8:30 am. They arrived at the hospital around 8:45 am and were quickly seen by the resident on call and the nursing staff.  The resident said that Mommy had dialated to 5 centimeters and was moved to the Labor and Delivery Room #9.  Around 11:00 am, Mommy got an epidural and the resident called Dr. Harper to the hospital because she dialated to 10 centimeters very quickly.
In just five easy pushes, I arrived at 12:17 pm.  My Poppi cut the umbilical cord while Mommy  kept her
eyes closed until she was told that everything was okay. Poppi told her to think about the Jersey Shore and it seemed to keep her calm.  My parents, RaJade and Milton James, named me Myla Arym James.  Myla is an old English name that means merciful.  My parents named me Arym (which uses the letters from the name Mary to create a unique middle name) after my late grandmother, Mary Ellen James and my great grandmother, Mary Lillian Berry.  At birth, I  weighed 7 pounds and 1 ounce and am 21 inches long.  My eyes are gray but Mommy and Poppi think that they’ll turn brown as I get older.  I have jet black straight hair and Poppi says that it is growing in every direction.  Mommy says that my most outstanding physical characteristics are that I have feet that are longer than the longest finger on her hand.  My pediatrician says that with feet like mine, I’ll either become a dancer or a neurosurgeon when I grow up.
Below are my most “Notable Moments” since I was born:
  • My First Book: One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish by Dr. Seuss.
  • My Parents’ Greatest Challenge: The Diaper Genie.
  • My First Doctor Visit: Monday, May 5 - My parents read Pat the Bunny by Dorothy Kunhardt to me in the waiting room.
  • My Nicknames to Date: “Girlie” is what my Poppi calls me and “Babe” is what my Mommy calls me.

  •
    Love you,
    Myla Arym James
