GREETINGS!

Soror Dorothy B. Davis, Basileus
Epsilon Mu Omega Chapter
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated

We thank God for the opportunity to "cross the bridge into the new millennium to blaze new trails."  When Ethel Hedgeman Lyle founded Alpha Kappa Alpha at Howard University in 1908, it was her dream and her conviction that an organization would bring the women students of the University closer together in the bonds of a sisterhood.  This sisterhood would also be a channel through which these women could dedicate themselves to a higher standard of scholastic achievement and service to help improve the status of women, in general and of Black women, in particular.

We embrace this vision of our founders to become a continuous union of sisterhood for all ages as we enter into a New Year and millennium.  To make this happen requires a focus on the needs and expectations of the community we serve, using creativity, taking risks, and a "thinking outside the box" mentality to make the difference.

I look forward to new challenges just as our past Basilei did, grounded in gratitude and secure in the belief that our motto, "service to all mankind" was well conceived to stand the test of time.

Sisterly,
Dorothy
