Economic Analysis Course

I have been asked to explain what I will do if there is no figure or similar error in a question in one of your attempts.

Why are there missing graphs in the quizzes?

What does a student do if there is a missing graph?

I know a student from last semester and they got extra points at the end of the class for this.  Will I get those extra points?

Why are there missing graphs in the quizzes?

The quizzes were created over many months so we can use them in this class.  There are thousands of questions in the data base, each one that had to be loaded into this program in pieces.  That is the figures and graphs had to be added separately from the words.  Suffice it to say that there are many opportunities for human error and they did a great, just not perfect job.

Let me also say that because of the mysteries of Springboard, we have found editing questions to be very difficult and time consuming.  So there are some figures missing.  I estimate that there are missing figures in less than 5% of these thousands of  questions and many have been corrected over the last break.  So some of you will never see a problem, but some of you might just get lucky and have it happen over and over.

Remember, your 10 questions in each quiz are pulled by a sophisticated algorithm from these many thousands of questions.

What does a student do if there is a missing graph?

When you submit your learning assessment, please document all question errors by using that form.  Always include in the learning assessment what was missing or in error and include the module number, attempt number, and question number.

What will the professor do if you report a missing graph or similar error in the question?

  1. If you guess at an answer and get it right then I will do nothing, but please do report the error and tell me you got it correct.
  2. If you guess at an answer and get it wrong then it gets a little more difficult.
    1. If it does not affect your highest score then I will do nothing, but please do report the error and tell me it didn’t affect your highest score.
    2. If it does affect your highest score or happens on more than one attempt, then report that and I will do something like one of the following things

                                                               i.      I may delete one of your attempts and give you another chance.

ii.      I may credit you with a correct answer in the most rare of cases.

I know a student from last semester and they got extra points at the end of the class for this.  Will I get those extra points?

In the last two semesters I have offered students a chance to self select some extra points based on how much they felt they were harmed by these errors.  Remember when your mom told you that a few “bad apples” ruin the “whole bushel?”  Well some students have chosen the maximum points when the number of missing graphs to them would not warrant that. So I am uncertain about allowing this self-adjustment to continue.  If I do, I will have to have you document how you were harmed and I will reserve the option to change the points you get.

So take your quizzes and document when you feel harmed.  I am only allowing “harm” when it affects your highest score, I will do nothing if it only takes you the time of taking another attempt.  I can discuss individual issues at anytime.

Always include in the learning assessment what was missing or in error and include the module number, attempt number, and question number.
