Polypeptides
The repeating sequence is -NH-CRR'-CO-.
The amino acids commonly found in proteins have R' = H.
The polymer may be chiral if R and R' are different.
The following polypeptides, or poly(alpha-amino acids), are discussed elsewhere.
- Polyalanine R = CH3, R' = H
- Poly(alpha-aminoisobutyric acid), R = R' = CH3
- Poly(glutamic acid), R = CH2 CH2COOH, R' = H
- Polyglycine, R = R' = H
- Polylysine, R = CH2CH2CH2CH2NH2, R' = H
- Polyproline, N-Calpha bond part of a five-membered pyrrolidine ring, R' = H
- Polytyrosine R = CH2C6H4OH, R' = H
