Hampton Hills: The Search for Buried Archaeology

A Geoscan fulxgate magnetometer was used to complete the remote surveys.  Magnetic data gathered using a magnetometer provides information that can be analyzed in a computer generated image form to assess the possibility of buried archaeological features. 

Magnetic data was collected in density intervals of eight readings per meter at half meter transects.  The data was collected in parallel transects.  A portable laptop computer was provided in the field at the time of the survey to display the collected data in a shaded image and trace-plot forms.  From this information, a preliminary analysis was made to view any possible underlying features or indication of anomalous trends.
