PBL in Medical Education

Southern Illinois University has a complete PBL track and is the current home of Howard Barrows, an individual who has made a considerable contribution to the study and clear articulation of PBL.

PBLIST Home Page is a major warehouse of topics related to designing and implementing PBL in the medical education field. This page is closely linked to the PBLIST - a listserv dedicated to discussion of PBL issues.

The University of Limburg at Maastricht holds a unique position among Dutch universities, notably because of its PBL educational system. Lots of interesting research from this institution. (This site can be a bit slow.)

PBL in Other Higher Ed Content Areas

McMaster University pioneered the unique Medical School approach to small group, problem-based learning and is now using it in the undergraduate Chemical Engineering program. Dig deeper into this site for some valuable tips and techniques.

PBL in the K-12 Classroom

Illinois Math and Science Academy is part of the First in the World consortium recognized in Feb. 1997 by President Clinton for the international rankings in Math and Science achieved by students in the consortium.
