Carol Flexer received a Ph.D. in Audiology from Kent State University in 1982. She has taught at Texas Tech University in Lubbock Texas, at Kent State University, and has been at the Universty of Akron for 20 years where she is a Professor of Audiology and Interim School Director of the School of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.
Special areas of expertise include pediatric and educational audiology. She has lectured internationally and has authored more than a 100 publications. She has co-edited three books: How the Students with Hearing Loss Can Succeed in College, first and second editions, and Sound-Field FM Amplification: Theory and Practical Applications. She has authored fourth and fifth books titled, Facilitating Hearing and Listening in Young Children -- first and second editions. The second edition was just published in 1999.
She is a past president of the Educational Audiology Association, a past board member of Auditory-Verbal International, and a past president of the American Academy of Audiology.

Denise Wray received her M.A. in speech-language pathology and her Ph.D. in elementary education from the University of Akron. She is a Professor of Speech-Language Pathology and has taught at the University for 21 years. Prior to that, she was employed as a school speech-language pathologist. Areas of interest include language disorders of students having hearing loss and issues related to the inclusion of these students in regular classrooms. She is a certified Auditory-Verbal Therapist, has co-authored over 22 journal articles, and co-edited two editions of a book with audiologists Dr. Carol Flexer and Ron Leavitt entitled How the Student with Hearing Loss Can Succeed in College. Dr. Wray is Director of the Auditory-Verbal Clinic at The University Akron School Speech-Language and Audiology and co-supervises children with hearing loss with Dr. Carol Flexer. Current research interests include speech-language skill development in children with cochlear implants and their classroom performance in the mainstream.
