Dr. Kimmell retired from the University of Akron in 1998 after 22 years of service. His principal teaching responsibilities were in the areas of Financial Accounting, Auditing, and Systems. He has published articles in The Internal Auditor, The Accounting Educators' Journal, The Journal of Accountancy, and the Accounting Review and is the author of Study Guide for Auditing: An Integrated Approach (7th edition) which accompanies Auditing: An Integrated Approach by A. Arens and J. Loebbecke.
Professor Kimmell was very active in professional accounting associations. He is a past president of the Cleveland Chapter of the Institute of Internal Auditors, a past president of the Ohio Region of the American Accounting Association, former editor of The Auditor's Report (an American Accounting Association Section newsletter), former editor of UPDATE, the Artificial Intelligence/Expert Systems Section Newsletter, and a former contributing editor to Internal Auditor.
A significant part of Dr. Kimmell's time was devoted to committee work at the University. He belonged to several department and college committees as well as the Faculty Senate and the University Planning and Budget Committee.
