I. Printed Chemical
Abstracts (1907 to 2000)
- Author Index (weekly, semiannually, every five years)
- Keyword Index (weekly issues)
- Patent Index (equivalent patents from various countries) (weekly,
semiannually, every five years)
- Chemical Substance Index (semiannually and every five years)
- Formula Index (semiannually and every five years)
- General Subject Index (semiannually and every five years)
- Index of Ring Systems (semiannually)
- Index Guide (every two to three years)
- All years are located in the Science-Technology Library (Science Index
QD1.A51)
II. CA on CD (1996 to 1997)
- Includes all sections of CA.
- Searchable by word, registry number, author, general subject, patent
number, formula, compound, abstract number, organization, journal, language,
year, document type, CA section, update. Includes patent families,
also.
- Bibliographic information (Author, Title, Journal), Abstract, Indexing can
be searched, printed, or saved to disk.
III. CAS Online
(1967 to present)
- All sections of CA are searchable from 1967 to the present. Certain
substances are searchable from 1957 to 1966, but polymers are a major
exception.
- Cost depends on the number of references you get and the format. The cost
of 100 references with abstracts is approximately $30 for academic accounts.
You must be a current University of Akron faculty member, staff member, or
student to qualify for the academic rates. The academic rates are currently
20% of the regular rates and are subject to change at any time. Searches at
academic rates must be done after 5 p.m. and before 5 a.m. or on the
weekends.
- Regular rates for 2000:
- Per Connect Hour..........$30 per hour
- Network Fee per Hour..........$6 to $12 per hour
- Per Search Term..........$1.40
- Bibliographic Format (Author, Title, Journal)..........82 cents per
reference
- Abstract...........62 cents per reference
- Indexing..........25 cents per reference
- Any part of the reference is searchable, including the page numbers and
volume numbers, as well as all of the indexes mentioned above for the printed
and cd-rom versions of CA.

IV.
SciFinder Scholar (1967 to present)
- All sections of CA are searchable from 1967 to the present.
- The software is designed so that you can do the searches yourself.
Searching is available 24 hours per day, except from 6 p.m., Saturday until 8
a.m., Sunday.
- The library pays for all of the costs associated with SciFinder Scholar;
however, you must be a current University of Akron student, staff, or faculty
member to use it.
